Into Poetry 

Online Poetry Course

Course Outline

 

The course will comprise of 4 x 2 hour online weekly group sessions:

 

Week 1: Writing Poetry

This first session will be used for introductions and to get you straight into the act of writing poetry through a mixture of long and short writing exercises

 

Week 2: Imagery

This session will explore what is meant by ‘imagery’, and consider how to generate new and innovative imagery in your own work

 

Week 3: Structure

This session will consider the purpose and effect of structure on the meaning of a poem through exploring how variations in form can impact on the poem’s meaning

 

Week 4: Editing 

This session will involve a discussion about different editing techniques and motivations, as well as a checklist from which you can 

edit your own work beyond the course

 

1-to-1 Session (Optional):  This may be used to:

  • Gain specific feedback on 3 of your poems 

  • Discuss questions and concerns about poetry more generally 

 

Course Costs and Options

 

  1. Into Poetry: Day Sessions

 

  • Online: 10 participants maximum

  • Wednesday 7th /14th /21st /28th September 10am-12 Noon

  • 1-to-1 Session (Optional): To be arranged between course instructor and participant 

 

2. Into Poetry: Evening Sessions

 

  • Online: 10 participants maximum 

  • Thursday 8th /15th/22nd /29th September  6pm- 8pm

  • 1-to-1 Session (Optional): To be arranged between course instructor and participant

Please note: 

 

  1. Both courses are the same: do not sign up for both 

  2. It is not possible to alternate day/evening sessions

 

 

Price Options and Methods of Payment 

 

Into Poetry: (inc. 1-to-1 feedback session) £200

 

Into Poetry: (Group sessions only) £160

 

To pay

 

  1. Submit a Contact form with your name, email address and preferred session 

  2. You will then be sent a PayPal invoice 

  3. Only when you have paid for the course will your place be confirmed 

  4. Terms and Conditions are below and will also be sent to all confirmed participants

Bookings


Bookings can only be confirmed when the course fee (£200/£160 as chosen) has been paid. The balance of your course fee is due before the course starts:

 

If I have not received your balance when it is due, I reserve the right to offer the place to someone else.

 

Cancellations


Courses usually require a minimum of four participants to run. In the event of a course being cancelled, you will receive a full refund of your fee or have the option to transfer your fees to the next course.

 

Should you need to cancel, your fee will only be refunded or transferred if your place can be filled. 

Should you need to cancel on the day the course begins or beyond this point, I cannot commit to providing refunds or transfers (though individual circumstances will be taken into consideration).

I am not able to provide partial refunds if you have missed a session for any reason. You will still be able to access the resources from that session online.

Conduct

 

It is expected that all participants are thoughtful and respectful of each other while working online. Please ensure you are participating from a quiet location without interruption from others, external noises etc. Wearing headphones can help cut out interference. I reserve the right to refuse a place to and/or to remove from an online course any person who, in my opinion, behaves in an abusive or disruptive manner or engages in any discriminatory conduct. This also applies to the one-to-one sessions. There would be no refund given if exclusion is made for these reasons. 

 

Loss


I cannot accept responsibility for any loss, damage or expense sustained by participants as a result of an event or circumstance whether arising from natural cause, human agency, or beyond my control.

 

Participation and access


The course will run online using Google Classroom. If you have any specific learning, access or other health requirements while working online, please discuss these with me prior to the start of the course. This will be give me the best chance to support your needs during the course. 

 

Please note that the Day and Evening Courses are run as separate courses: if you miss a Day Course session, I am unable to accommodate you in the Evening Course Session the following day.

This information includes personal contact details including: name, address, telephone number, email address, access, learning requirements, payment details, and any other information we may need to administer your booking. Payment will be done through PayPal so I will not have access to your credit/debit card details. I will never share or sell personal information to third parties.

You guarantee that any material shared or otherwise submitted during this course is your own work, unless otherwise stated, and does not infringe the copyright or intellectual property rights of any third party. You own the copyright and intellectual property in all of your original material. You also agree to respect the provenance and confidentiality of material produced or shared on this course which is not your own.
